Born Ruffians To Release New Album ‘Say It’ On Paper Bag Records!

We are incredibly pleased to announce the Canadian release of Born Ruffians‘ second album, Say It, due June 1st on Paper Bag Records. If Born Ruffians’ 2008 debut album Red Yellow and Blue was the result of a talented and precocious gang of freshmen, their 2010 follow-up, Say It, would be the project they left school to finish – a declaration that they’re smart and ambitious enough to make it on their own, and furthermore, that they’re in it for the long haul.

Taking two weeks to record the album, the band finds itself teaming up again with producer Rusty Santos. The Ruffians and co. holed up at Mississauga’s Metalworks studio and loosed the reins on their ambitions, experimenting with Minimoogs and saxophones ebfore eventually scaling much of it back in the mixing process.

The result is a very mature album, further amplifying the band’s unique voice and sound, ready to take them as far as they want to go. And that includes a very thorough tour of North America including SxSW and CMW. See tour dates below!

Under Byen Return With “Raw and Primal” Fourth Album

Denmark’s Under Byen are set to release their new, “cut to the bone”, fourth album Alt Er Tabt (All Is Lost) on April 6th 2010.  The new album is the band’s first studio album since 2006’s internationally-acclaimed Samme Stof Som Stof.  Alt Er Tabt will be the band’s third release on Toronto’s Paper Bag Records.

Alt Er Tabt is Under Byen’s most direct album to date.  It is structured around subtle, minimal and abstract sounds. The music and lyrics are always on the edge of exploding into a new meaning, new complexity and new shades of wealth. The instruments were recorded to preserve their pure unmediated materiality, where music is confused with sounds.  A cello sounds like wood. A guitar sounds like steel.  Alt Er Tabt is the group’s most lively and playful album to date – no matter how alarming the tone might sound.

“A lot has happened in the band since we released Samme Stof Som Stof four years ago,” says Nils Gröndahl. “Thorbjørn, who played the piano, has left the band, and being without him has in some way turned us into a new band. He wrote most of the music, but on Alt Er Tabt everyone in the band has contributed to the songwriting.”

Under Byen (Danish for ‘under the city’) broke the music world open with 2006’s North American release of its album Samme Stof Som Stof. The album was performed in such unconventional locations as an 18th-century Belgian house, and a Swedish forest.

Under Byen is:
Henriette Sennenvaldt – vocal
Nils Gröndahl – violin/saw
Sara Saxild – bass
Stine Sørensen – drums, vocals
Morten Larsen – drums
Morten Svenstrup – cello
Anders Stochholm – this and that

Woodhands Announces New Album ‘Remorsecapade’!

Remember those late night dance parties, stumbling home sweaty and debauched and not really knowing or caring what happened, where you were or who you were? Good news, we’re going for round two!

Toronto’s own Woodhands are back with their second full length album, Remorsecapade, and from the sounds of it, things are only going to get more intense.

‘Remorscapade’ CD Art

‘Remorscapade’ CD Art

After spending the past year and a half touring Canada, the United States, China, and Japan in support of Heart Attack, and delivering a slew of remixes and cover songs that have kept the party going strong, Woodhands is back with a stimulating plethora of darker, energetic dance tracks. Remorsecapade dives deeper into the emotional territory of Heart Attack, painting strangely compelling portraits of lost souls inhabiting the late night abyss of dance clubs (‘I Should Have Gone With My Friends’), sweaty hand-holding (‘Pockets’), and – of course – heartbreak, here described as ‘doubling’. The songs of Remorsecapade run from the deceptive bubble gum pop arrangement of ‘Dissembler’ to the explosive punk rock/electro hybrid of ‘Coolchazine’, and throughout, Woodhands offers listeners a rich journey throughout the scorched landscape of what their sweaty brand of electronic has now become: Risky, emotionally resonant, and dangerously addictive.

The album will be out January 26, 2010 in Canada, and February 23 in the US.

Track Listing:

  1. Pockets
  2. Talk
  3. CP24
  4. SLUTS!
  5. Coolchazine
  6. I Should Have Gone With My Friends
  7. Dissembler
  8. When The Party Is Over
  9. I Want To Be Together
  10. How To Survive A Remorsecapade (Outro)
